GREEN ENERGY FOR THE OFFICES OF THE COMPANY
Lighting, air conditioning and other electricity consumption of the Třinecké železárny's administrative buildings will be supplied with energy from renewable sources throughout the year. Volume of this is approximately 5 GWh.
Třinecké železárny, together with its subsidiary Energetika Třinec, thus contributes to reducing CO2 emissions. The two companies agreed on this step last year, and they intend to continue this year. The energy supplier buys the required volume from wind, hydro or solar power plants. In addition, the Třinec energy sector co-burns biomass, which also saves on greenhouse gas emissions.
"It is one of numerous activities of companies in the Group that are aimed at gradual reduction of the carbon footprint," says Jan Czudek, CEO of the company. Both companies are also working to compensate for CO2 emissions in other areas, some of which target the energy sector. For example, the purchase of emission-free energy for the operation of the EAF Plant is under negotiation.
"The operation of the steelworks is very energy-intensive, but according to the principles of the circular economy, we use all metallurgical gases (blast furnace, converter and coke oven gases) for reprocessing. Heat from combined heat and power generation heats almost 9,000 apartments, schools, hospitals, services and other facilities in the city,” notes Petr Matuszek, director of Energetika Třinec.
Steel itself, as an infinitely recyclable material, ideally fulfills the principles of environmental sustainability. "Steel is indispensable in achieving the European Union's climate goals due to its crucial role for rail transport, wind or hydropower and components for the environmentally friendly automotive industry," concludes the CEO of the company.
